Blitzscaling: Micro Review
From the LinkedIn co founder and partner at Greylock, Reid Hoffman, comes a book on how to grow a startup to $1B+, really fast.
It’s a great book on the techniques that successful startups are using to scale to dizzying heights. It’s a high stake strategy and not for the faint of heart. Some of the techniques that the book talks about (e.g. let fires burn, ignore angry customers) may seem totally counter intuitive to corporate veterans. But it does come with a warning for incumbents — “Grow Fast or Die Slow”.
The book delves into 3 aspects of this — Business Model, Strategy and Management. For me, the most value I got out of the book was in the detailed analysis and techniques described in the these different aspects since they can be applied to many businesses and scenarios.
As for blitzscaling a startup, easier said than done :) I think the most telling line in the book was -“Once you convince the market for capital and the market for talent to invest in your scale up, you have the fuel required to start blitzscaling.”
“Once you convince….”. That’s the hardest part.
A definite read if you want to get an understanding of what goes behind the success of many startups and how to apply that in any business.
