Team of Teams by General STANLEY MCCHRYSTAL is an engaging read on how autonomous small teams in a large organization can work together transparently and collaboratively to accomplish even mission critical common goals.

In the book he walks us through his experience of leading the Joint Operations Task Force over the years and how his experience and his learning transcends to any large organization today operating in a new complex world.

His assertion in the introduction resonated with me as something that all large organizations are facing today — “We will argue that familiar pursuit of efficiency must change course. Efficiency remains important, but the ability to adapt to complexity and continual change has become an imperative”

The book does a good job of weaving his experiences and insights to build an effective Team of Teams — Building trust, common purpose, a shared consciousness and enabling an empowered execution. And system thinking…. And cultural change…..

If you are working for a large organization and going through any transformation or change, a lot of the concepts in the book will resonate.
